Kampot and Kep Countryside
This Kampot and Kep tour is available as part of your Cambodia holiday package, and is superb for relaxation and discovery. The old provincial capital of Kampot with its quite lanes and colonial period architecture is an extremely welcoming and ambient place. It is the perfect place to just take a wander along the river, and visit the nearby Bokor Hill Station. Kep on the other hand was Cambodia’s premier beach town in the 1960’s, drawing holiday makers to its breezy shores. The nearby rabbit island, boasts the best beach in the area. Kep is a little fragmented but great for the explorer, from the nearby national park to the crab market, Kep beach and the numerous crumbling French villas that dot the coastline.
We have put together 3 Kampot tours that we recommend to get the most out of your stay in the region.
Wine & Cheese Sunset Cruise
At 4 pm you will be welcomed aboard DIVA a 42 foot river boat, once belonging to King Norodom Sihanouk, she was once referred to as the ‘Royal Vessel’. But that was some years ago and now she is more of a modest river boat.
You depart to enjoy a leisurely cruise out towards the mouth of the South China Sea, enjoy a glass or two of icy-cold ‘Laughing Lizard’ Sauvignon Blanc, camembert and crackers as the scenery slowly rolls by. Children frantically wave, as they sit on the veranda of their Muslim Cham, you pass mosques, mangroves and the salt fields with a view of Phu Quoc Island in the distance.
After the sunset melts into the horizon your tour returns to Kampot at 6pm.
Countryside and Kampot Tour
We pick you up from your hotel and take you out for a full day exploring the surrounding Kampot and Kep Countryside. We take in the Pepper Plantations, Salt Fields and the majestic caves containing a 5th Century Hindu temple as well as abandoned former Colonial holiday residences, lining the boulevards of Kep.
Interact with the locals as we see first-hand how the rice is grown and harvested. Stop off at a picturesque fishing village and enjoy pepper crab for lunch (optional) at the famous Kep Crab Market.
Bokor Hill Station, Kampot Tour
The ‘Treasure of Kampot Province’, is the former retreat of the French elite. This is Bokor Hill Station, of the 1930′s Colonial era. Magnificent views from the top of the mountain await. We will stop first at the remains of the 1922 colonial church, before continuing to the old casino. Following in the footsteps of ‘Days Gone By’ we find a beautiful picnic spot, laying out a spread of traditional delights. Enjoying the best of the local produce, we barbeque pork, prawns and squid, while relaxing and taking in the ambiance, basking in the traditional lifestyle of a bygone era. This tour is well worth it for the breathtaking views of Kampot and Kep as they, disappear and reappear as the mist drifts over the cliff top.
