We have created three wonderful Cambodia tour experiences to add to your holiday package that allow you to get that little bit closer to typical indigenous life. These experiences have been created alongside our charitable and responsible NGO partner ‘HUSK’. Meaning that a lot of thought and effort has gone in to working with the communities. This provides a helping hand and gives them what they want. Not what people think they need, which is a very common problem with other Cambodia tours.
Day in a Life (Small Group Tour) – 8 hours
(08:00 – 16:00 on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday)
Our Day in a Life Cambodia tour visits a real village and is your chance to see the real country; an opportunity not to be missed. Join a local family and spend a few hours in their shoes. Help with a rice harvest, planting, weaving thatch or driving an ox cart. These activities depend on the season and the families routine on any given day. This project directly helps all villagers in providing sustainable income, year round. It is also a perfect opportunity to capture some incredible photographs and memories.
On every Cambodia tour of this kind, a host family looks after the group. This family welcomes you into their home and lives for the day. They receive a small payment for their effort and a larger contribution is made to a village fund. The village fund is used for special projects like water filters and wells. We work with the families to determine which projects need to be undertaken.
Private Day in a Life– 8 hours (Any Day)
Our Day in a Life Cambodia tour can be run as a private tour. This gives greater flexibility in timings and activities and is ideal for families, private groups, schools or corporate groups.
Village Walk and Talk – 2 hours
Every visitor makes an impact; why not make yours a positive one? Treak Village is located around 10 minutes from Siem Reap town and is home to around 300 families. The villagers are mainly farmers, who are living day to day. While Siem Reap is changing quickly, change here is slow, giving you the opportunity to learn about typical village life. This is an opportunity to meet local people and interact with them in a respectful and meaningful way. Photo opportunities abound and your Cambodia tour guide will provide information on the village and an insight into people’s lives. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about real life in Cambodia.
Water Blessing – On Request
Water Blessings are a sacred ritual performed in Pagodas across Cambodia. The blessing brings cleansing luck and is performed by a monk in the grounds of an active Pagoda. A water blessing is a wonderful way to share some of Cambodia’s rich vibrant culture and take home some wonderful memories.
Two options are available either with a full dousing of water or a light sprinkling. Just let us know which you prefer.
It is extremely important that you do not hand out gifts, lollies or money directly to these families or children, no matter how dire the situation seems. Providing gifts can cause problems within the village and jealousy among families and relatives. Should you wish to help please discuss this with your team leader. You will notice that many children suffer poor dental hygiene. Please do not buy or hand out lollies – this only contributes to the problem. We appreciate your understanding on these matters.
*From each tour a percentage of the tour fee goes to an enrichment fund which is spent on helping the village on agreed projects, such as the sponsorship of fruit trees, rubbish collection and sanitation.
